Laminotomy
Laminotomy is the partial removal of the lamina (lamina is the part of a vertebra that helps create a bony arch to protect the spinal cord). The surgery aims to alleviate pressure on the spinal nerves or spinal cord by partial removal of the lamina by making a larger opening in the lamina. Small portion of lamina is removed usually from one side. This method helps to restore the natural support of the lamina, decreasing the chances of spinal instability after surgery. It is a small minimal invasive procedure that helps the patient to get rid of the pain and discomfort soon.
