Kidney Transplant

Kidney transplant basically involves surgically attaching a healthy kidney from a brain-dead donor or a living donor to the patient suffering with end-stage renal disease(ESRD).

KINDS-TWO

Cadaveric – This is a process of surgically transplanting a kidney from a brain-dead organ donor and is also known as a cadaver transplant. For a cadaveric transplant the name of the recipient is placed on a cadaver waiting list. A blood sample for antibody level will be sent monthly to the medical center. The waiting period depends upon the availability of a cadaver donor compatible with the blood type.

Nephrectomy – In this process, a kidney is surgically removed a kidney from a living donor. Laparoscopic Nephrectomy is a form of minimally-invasive surgery using instruments on long, narrow rods to view, cut, and remove the donor kidney. This can further be divided into other two parts namely living-related and living-nonrelated donors depending on whether there is a biological relation between the donor and the recipient. However in most of the cases seen kidney donated by a living-related donor stands strong chances of matching with the recipient.

INDICATIONS

End-Stage Renal Disease (kidneys lose about 90% of their functioning) is the indication for Kidney Transplant. Common diseases leading to ESRD include infections, diabetes mellitus, malignant hypertension, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, some genetic causes like polycystic kidney disease and some autoimmune conditions like Lupus.

Liver Transplant

Liver Transplant is surgically removing a diseased liver out of the patient’s body and attaching a healthy Liver of the donor (allograft) at the same anatomic location of the original Liver. The technique used is also called Orthotopic transplantation. Liver Transplantation is almost a life saving option for end-stage Liver disease and Acute Liver failures. Liver transplant can be done with both Deceased (Cadaver) Donor Liver Transplant and Living Donor Liver transplantation.

Deceased (Cadaver) Donor Liver Transplant (DDLT) is a transplant wherein patients with advanced liver disease, who do not have the option of a living donor transplant, join the waiting list for a deceased donor.DDLT has long been a standard for liver transplantation but at the same time, it has been witnessed that the transplant community has been increasingly suffering from the shortage of donor organs.

In case of a Living DonorLiver transplantation (LDLT), the patient will receive a portion of liver from a living donor instead of waiting for matching whole liver from a deceased donor, Due to the liver’s ability to regrow, a living donor is able to give a portion of their liver to the donor recipient. A living donor should be an overall healthy person, both mentally and physically.A living donor can be blood relative to the recipient. The donor can also be a close, non-blood-related friend of relative that wishes to donate a portion of their liver.

EYE MUSCLE SURGERY-Eye muscle surgery is performed to weaken, strengthen, or reposition any of the extraocular muscles (small muscles) located on the surface of the eye that move the eyeball in all directions.
