    • Ovarian Cancer Treatment

    Ovaries are that part of female reproductive system that produces eggs. Abnormal growth of cells in the ovaries is termed as ovarian cancer. It is the 8th most common cancer found in women. It is often termed as silent killer by the doctors as the symptoms of ovarian cancer does not show until it reaches the advanced stage. By the patient notices the symptoms the cancer reaches the other neighboring parts of the body. Ovarian cancer is painless until it causes ovarian torsion.

    • Surgery – Surgery depends on the stage of the cancer. Generally the surgeon performs Laparotomy in which a sample of tumor is taken out and examined immediately. Once the Ovarian cancer is ruled out and malignancy is confirmed, the surgeon proceeds with the suitable procedure. Certain medical procedures are then carried on like if required the surgeon will go for a Hysterectomy in which the uterus is removed, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in which fallopian tubes and ovaries are removed or omentectomy or lymphadenectomy in which one or more lymph nodes are removed.
    • Chemotherapy – Chemotherapy is treatment in which drugs are used to treat cancer. Mostly chemo is given systematically and drugs are made entered into the blood stream and reach all the parts of the body. However in ovarian Cancer drugs are entered into the abdominal cavity through a thin tube called catheter. This procedure is called Intraperitonial Chemotherapy.
    • Hormone Therapy – Hormone therapy is use of hormone or hormone blocking drugs to fight cancer.

    Radiation Therapy – In Radiation Therapy, patient is treated by high energy X-rays to kill cancer cells without affecting the healthy tissues.
